ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday greeted the people of the state, particularly the Aka (Koro) community on the festive occasion of Sarok Festival.

The Governor expressed his hope that the festivity will usher in prosperity, contentment and happiness. In his message, Mishra said that the festivals and ceremonies are the key dimensions of human culture and form an important component of socio-environmental life of the people.

"Since time immemorial the indigenous people have carried on with their traditions. Sarok Festival reflects the deep bond between mankind and nature. At the same time, it also facilitates in carrying forward our age-old cultural heritage and customs. I wish that the younger generations should get connected with their roots by taking active part in the celebration and be proud of our cultural diversity," he said.

"On this solemn occasion, I join my Aka (Koro) brethren in offering our prayers to the Almighty for peace, tranquillity and well-being of all," the Governor said in his message.

Khandu also greeted the Aka community residing primarily in East Kameng district on the occasion. As traditionally Sarok celebration is a prayer to Mother Earth for well-being of all mankind, Khandu offered his prayers for peace, prosperity and progress of every community of Arunachal Pradesh.

"Sarok, though celebrated by the Akas of East Kameng, is an occasion for all people to come together and simply be happy. Let's celebrate happiness and spread happiness across our beautiful state which is distinct for its diverse communities, traditions and culture but take pride as Arunachalees," Khandu said in a message.

"As Sarok drives away evil spirits, let's drive away the evils of hatred, violence and corruption and join together to take our state on the path of accelerated development. Let's all join our Aka brothers and sisters of East Kameng in their celebrations," he added.
