KOLORIANG: Arunachal Pradesh's Home Minister Bamang Felix inaugurated a Fire & Emergency Services station building here on Saturday.

The inauguration was also attended by Koloriang MLA Lokam Tassar, Kurung Kumey Deputy Commissioner Bengia Nighee, Director General of Police RP Upadhyay, Superintendent of Police (Fire) Sanjay Bhatia, HoDs, PRI representaives and public.

Dedicating the fire station to the people of Koloriang, Felix underscored the importance of creating awareness among the public on fire safety and fire emergencies.

"Fire services cannot avert fire incidents; it can only prevent fire from spreading further. Fire incidents can be stopped only if people are cautious and are aware of fire safety measures," Felix said.

He also called for undertaking IEC activities in this regard.

Calling for cooperation from the public, he appealed to the public to refrain from constructing houses haphazardly, which creates hurdles for fire tenders from reaching the incident spot at the time of emergencies.

Pointing out that most of the fire incidents are reported to be caused by electrical short circuits, Felix advised people to get electrical wiring of their houses done by professionals.

Emphasizing that land is the prerequisite for any infrastructural development, Felix called on the public for their cooperation while reiterating that there is enough political will in Chief Minister Pema Khandu-led Government to bring development across the State.

He further appealed to the people to take care of Government-created assets in their respective areas, while stating that all such assets are of, and for, the public only.

Earlier, MLA Tassar in his speech expressed his gratitude to the State Government and the Police department for making the dream of having a fire station in Koloriang a reality and said that fire station plays an important role in town safety. DGP Upadhyay and Kurung Kumey Superintendent of Police Minjom Ete also spoke on the occasion. While SP Ete highlighted some policing-related challenges, the DGP lauded the fire station staff for their services all these years despite operating from a temporary station.
