ITANAGAR: The first edition of the Dorjee Khandu Memorial district-level archery tournament concluded with an exciting finale and prize distribution ceremony at Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. The Sangeyling team emerged victorious in the traditional-style archery category with 15 shots, while Team Monyul finished as runners-up with 2 shots. In the Olympic-style archery category, Ketchengha Boys secured the top position with 328 points, followed by Changbu Boys with 295 points. The winning teams received trophies and cash prizes, marking a successful conclusion to the tournament.
The event was attended by Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering, along with several dignitaries, including superintendent of police Dr D W Thongon, representative of Tawang Brigade Lt Colonel Digvijay Jadhav, family members of Dorjee Khandu, district BJP President Lhundup Choisang, district NPP President Phurpa Lama, senior officers, public leaders, and representatives from various sports associations.
Addressing the occasion, Tsering praised the Tawang District Archery Association for organising the tournament and acknowledged the family of Dorjee Khandu for sponsoring the event.
He described Khandu as a visionary leader who played a crucial role in the state’s development and encouraged the youth to draw inspiration from his contributions while striving for excellence in archery at the national and international levels. Tawang District Archery Association’s vice chairperson Tenzin Lhendup expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his family for sponsoring the tournament and committing to making it an annual event.
