Arunachal Literary Festival focuses on Children Literature

Itanagar: The second day of the three-day Arunachal Literary Festival (Litfest) on Thursday witnessed discussion among prominent writers on role of children literature in nurturing creativity, literature besides screening of films, poetry recitation and painting competition among children.

During a panel discussion in the morning with noted Assamese writer Bhaskar Dutta Boruah in the chair, panellists Ananda Lal Deep Saikia and Teesta Guha Sarkar, interacted elaborately on “The Perfect First Book: What Publishers Seek in New Writers”, and stressed on publication of books with originality, independent voice and sensitivity to words. The panellist also pointed out the diminishing trend in selling poetry books.

While Arunachalee poet Jamuna Bini Tadar had a detail conversation with noted novelist Anuja Chauhan on her works which is doing wonders among the young people, a discussion on the topic “Challenges in Developing Indigenous Language” chaired by Lisa Lomdak with Ani Taggu, Tony Koyu, Banwang Losu and Lalnungthangi Chhangte as panellists had exhaustive talks on the scripts deciphered and ongoing works in various places.

In the poetry reciting competition, rich varieties of poems were recited in Nocte language by Thajom Aboh, in Nyishi by Stephen Toku, in Galo by Takop Zirdo and other panellists.

Arindum Borkotoky with panellists Srijana Subba, Chandrakanta Mura Singh, Chador Wangmo and Ajanta, dwelt at length on “Role of Children’s Literature in Nurturing Creativity”. Prof Venkateswar with panellists Anuja Chauhan, YD Thongchi and Rain Chuori elaborately discussed on “Literature and Film”.

A panel discussion on the topic “Translation: Transcending the World” was chaired by Tayenjam Bijoykumar Singh and panellist Basudev Das, Kamal Kumar Tanti and Jivan Roy, laid stress on maintaining the root and originality of the writers to make it a global reading.

All translators lauded the works of YD Thongchi who contributed a lot to Assamese literature and most of his novel and short stories have also been translated to Bengali.

On the occasion, a film by Manju Borah based on a novel by Thongchi, who is also the president of Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) was screened at Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall amid overwhelming viewerships.

Around 100 participants turned up for the spot painting competition held on the occasion.

The three-day literary event is being organized by state’s Information and Public Relation Department in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS).
