ITANAGAR: The Itanagar Women Police Station has apprehended a man for alleged repeated sexual abuse of his 11-year-old biological sister.
According to police reports, the arrest followed a detailed statement provided by the victim, revealing a disturbing pattern of abuse that began in 2022 and persisted over several years.
Authorities confirmed that in addition to the sexual abuse charges, the accused is also being charged with abducting the minor victim. The girl was located and recovered from Guwahati, Assam, three days prior, where her brother had allegedly taken her after her disappearance.
The case has been registered under Section 180 and Section 87 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 6 of the POCSO Act, which protects children from sexual offences.
After rescuing the victim, a medical test was done, and the results are awaited. Police said a detailed investigation is going on to collect more information and evidence about the case.
The investigation was initiated after a WhatsApp First Information Report (FIR) was lodged on January 31 by the father of the victim, a 47-year-old resident of Chimpu.
The father reported that his 11-year-old daughter had been missing since approximately 5 PM on December 5, 2024, prompting the Women Police Station to register the case and commence search operations.
