Guwahati: A man committed suicide after allegedly killing his daughter-in-law and her 2-year-old daughter at the forest colony of Longding township, around 350 km from Itanagar on Sunday, police said.

MS Reddy, Longding SP informed that around 8 am, information about an incident in which two persons had been murdered by a person who later committed suicide had come to light.  Accordingly, OC PS Inspector Onyok Lego rushed to the crime spot and the place was examined and the evidence was lifted.

"An FIR under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered and further investigation is on" said Officer-in-Charge Onyok Lego, Longding.

As per initial investigation, the accused Late Malem Pansa ( Rtd LC PWD Ldg) was a widower and an opium addict and had a history of harassing his daughter-in-law Late Toikam Pansa (30) for money. Reportedly, there was a scuffle between the two the night before the incident as well, informed the police.

The accused, in the wee hours, mercilessly attacked his daughter-in-law and grand-daughter with a local machete while they were in sleep and hanged himself afterwards, the police said.

The deceased woman is survived by her two children and her husband Chinglem Pansa, who is a sepoy in the Assam Rifles.
