ITANAGAR: In a shocking incident in Itanagar on Tuesday, masked attackers stormed the Genesis Watch Store in the Akashdeep Market complex, causing significant damage and briefly kidnapping two employees.

The attack occurred around 4 p.m. when 10-15 individuals vandalized the store and forcibly abducted the staff members. The attackers then kept the employee's hostage at the residence of Lezen Gyadi, president of the All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU), before they were released in response to police intervention.

According to Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh, the attack appeared to be an act of retaliation stemming from an earlier confrontation. It was earlier in the day when Gyadi and three companions attempted to steal some watches from the shop without paying for them. Takam Tanio, the owner of the shop, intervened in the altercation, managed to calm Gyadi down, and asked him to pay for one of the watches.

Following the attack, the police have registered several cases against the attackers on charges of vandalism, assault, and abduction. The CCTV footage is being scanned to ascertain the identities of the attackers. The Itanagar Market Welfare Association has also raised a voice over the violence erupting in the locality in recent times after threats allegedly made by Gyadi's group.

The attack has also created a lot of public outcry since videos began to surface on social media. Authorities have promised swift action with increased security in the market complex, so no similar incident happens in the future.
