NAMSAI: Namsai will host its first Golden Pagoda Marathon (GPM) on February 9, 2025, at the Golden Pagoda. The theme of the event is "Marathon and Namsai Tourism." It is being organized by the Tourism Department with the help of the Namsai district administration. The marathon aims to encourage fitness, sports, and tourism while highlighting the beautiful landscapes and cultural heritage of the district.
The three-day marathon will offer participants and visitors an opportunity to explore eco-adventure sports like kayaking and bamboo rafting. The marathon, which was announced on December 19, 2024, in New Delhi, is designed to blend fitness with cultural exploration, inviting runners and travelers from across the country. Registration for the event ran from December 1 to January 15.
The marathon features four categories suitable for both seasoned athletes and beginners: a 42-km full marathon for participants aged 18 and above, with a grand prize of Rs 2 lakh; a 21-km half-marathon for the same age group, offering Rs 1.5 lakh for the winner; a 10-km standard run for participants aged 12 and above, with a prize of Rs 1 lakh; and a 5-km fun run, open to all ages, where the winner will receive Rs 20,000. The race will start from the Golden Pagoda premises.
In addition to the race, the event will highlight Arunachal Pradesh's unique identity through tribal performances, local cuisines, and eco-friendly practices, making it more than just a marathon—it's a celebration of the region's rich culture and natural beauty.
