ITANAGAR: "Adi community is a tribe which not only celebrates its festival with full enthusiasm but also lays full emphasis on sports activities alongside festival celebration," underlined, Arunachal Olympic Association (AOA), general secretary, Bamang Tago.

Tago said that the ADI community is playing a leading role and acts as a role model when it comes to conducting and organizing any sporting activities with full discipline and professionalism.

He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the capital complex Solung-2022 Football Tournament as the Chief Guest. He kicked off the tournament at Majestic AAPBN Ground in Chimpu, Itanagar here on Saturday. Ramesh Linggi, Director, of Youth Affairs attended the occasion as the guest of honour.

"The interest, participation, and enthusiasm I have seen among children, parents, and elders in the ADI community when an event takes place, serves as a beacon for the existing unity and oneness. Such efforts will go a long way in preserving the age-old culture and tradition including promoting sports culture among the youth," emphasized Tago.

Stating that sports transformed into a global leading industry, Tago urged parents to encourage their children to participate in sports activities and help them if they want to take up sports as a profession.

Secretary Sports, SFCCI-2022, Okit Paling said that a total of 16 teams are participating in the tournament that will continue for about a month along with other sporting events such as volleyball, tug of war, etc.

"Football is an integral part of the Solung festival. Sports activities are synonymous with Solung. We keep sports activities as part of Solung so that youth get a chance to learn about unity, team spirit and budding talents can showcase their skills,' he added.

Vice President, Hangung Yaying, and General Secretary, SFFCI-2022, Taja Bonung SFFCCI-2022 jointly appealed to all to visit and watch the tournament including other sports activities being organized as part of the Solung Festival celebration -2022 in Itanagar.

Meanwhile, in the inaugural football match played on Saturday, Abor FC defeated Koje Janggo FC by a margin of 3:1.

The first half ended with Abor FC's lone goal against Koje Janggo FC. In the second half, Koje Janggo FC came back with a goal against Ebor FC almost 12 minutes into the game.

Later Abor FC scored 2 goals against Koje Janggo FC the 55 and 75 minutes into the game securing a win. Olik Tayeng of Abor FC was declared the man of the match.
