ITANAGAR: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General (Retd.) KT Parnaik, participated in a One-Day Seminar on the Military History of the Northeast, titled “Towards a Military History of Northeast India,” at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), Rono Hills, Doimukh.

In his address, the Governor emphasized the seminar’s importance in understanding the region’s evolution, particularly in the post-independence era. He highlighted how the British and armed forces approached the Northeast differently compared to the rest of the country.

Drawing from his experience—from serving as a young Captain to leading as a General Officer Commanding—he noted that long-standing neglect had contributed to the rise of insurgency. He stressed the need for a multifaceted approach to security.

As the Chief Rector of RGU, the Governor commended the Vice Chancellor and his team for organizing the seminar. He underscored its role in educating students, academicians, and future leaders on the military history of the Northeast, enabling them to contribute to national security and strategy.

Encouraging deeper academic engagement, he urged research scholars to pursue doctoral studies in military history, emphasizing that fresh perspectives from young researchers could provide valuable insights into national security and integration.

The seminar, organized by RGU’s Department of History, witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students and research scholars from RGU and other universities across the Northeast. A total of 13 research papers were presented during the event.
