ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh State BJP Scheduled Tribes (ST) Morcha on Friday extended heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju for the passage of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025.

The event was organized at the BJP State Office in Itanagar by the BJP ST Morcha. Speaking to reporters, State ST Morcha President Kame Yangfo expressed his deep appreciation to PM Modi and Minister Rijiju for the much-needed amendment. He stated that the implementation of the Waqf Amendment Act would contribute significantly to the welfare of the Muslim community.

Yangfo explained that the aim of the amendment is to bring greater transparency, ensure wider participation in decision-making, and improve the management of Waqf assets. Under the new provisions, only individuals who have been practicing Islam for at least five years will be eligible to make Waqf-related donations.

He also alleged that the Waqf Board and Council had previously misused their authority, leading to issues such as illegal land encroachments and abuse of power.
