ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) successfully passed two important bills during the second day of its fourth session on Friday.
The bills, namely the Arunachal Pradesh Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Arunachal Pradesh Flood Plain Zoning Bill, 2025, were introduced by Minister of Land Management Balo Raja and Minister for Water Resources Biyuram Waghe.
Besides, the house passed the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024, in accordance with Article 252(1) of the Constitution. While discussing, Speaker Tesam Pongte suggested that amendments to the Flood Plain Zoning Bill incorporate provisions relating to land erosion resulting from minor streams, which have been adversely affected.
During another discussion, National People's Party (NPP) MLA Namgey Tsering expressed concern over the Indian Army's occupation of the community land in Tawang district due to the absence of proper documentation and the land acquisition process. Tsering called upon the state government to step in to denotify the land and ease the restrictions being imposed by the military on the people.
Echoing Tsering’s concerns, NCP MLA Toko Tatung condemned the military's occupation of valuable lands in border regions, saying it has caused problems for the original landowners. In reply, Minister Balo Raja assured the house that the state government would collaborate with the central government, defense agencies, and locals of Tawang to resolve these issues of urgency.
