ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extension of the free ration distribution scheme under the 'Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojana' (PMGKAY). The PM has announced extension of the scheme by five months till the end of November, next with an additional estimated outlay of Rs 90,000 crores.

Addressing a press conference, State BJP spokesperson Tadar Dominik said that now 80 crore people — especially poor persons — would get free ration for the next five months. Under the scheme, 5Kg of rice/wheat and one kg of daal to each person of the family would be provided.

The scheme has been extended in view of the ongoing pandemic in the world; added Tadar while adding that beside free ration, the Centre has already transferred Rs 31,000 crore to almost 20 crores poor families in their respective 'Jan Dhan Yojana' accounts during the last three months. Tadar also added that the 'One Nation-One Ration Card' move of the government is significant as under it an individual would be able to get ration in any corner of the country. Further, speaking on the contribution of BJP and its party workers, he informed that the BJP workers are active are extending their helping hands to the needy people. They have distributed 22 crore food packages and other essential items to the needy people.
