ITANAGAR: Bodhana NGO, in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Women's Welfare Society, is organizing a 16-day "Travelling Art and Film Festival" across various districts of Arunachal Pradesh to raise awareness about gender-based violence.
The festival, which began on November 25, aims to engage young people through film screenings, workshops, and interactive sessions on topics such as gender equality, menstrual hygiene, and breaking taboo. The event also features mural art and poster-making activities to promote social change. By combining art, film, and activism, the festival seeks to create a platform for dialogue and encourage critical thinking among young people. The organizers hope to empower individuals to challenge gender norms and advocate for a more equitable society.
The festival has been receiving immense participation from the youth, young adults, and community members in Seijosa, Pakke Kessang, Seppa, Raga, Ziro, and Yachuli, and for the next two days in Itanagar. The primary target audience is youths from marginalised communities who are less likely to attend film screenings. The festival is a cultural avenue aimed at bringing us together around arts and politics, to celebrate our differences but also how much we have in common, and to create a safe space for difficult and taboo topics to be discussed.
The 16 Days of camp against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women's Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Centre for Women's Global Leadership. It is a global call for action to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls, actions to increase awareness, galvanize advocacy efforts, and share knowledge and innovations.
