Arunachal Pradesh: BRO Stepping Up Infrastructure Development In Border Area To Counter Chinese Invasion

ITANAGAR: According to Brig. Raman Kumar, Chief Engineer, Project Vartak, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) is stepping up infrastructure development along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by developing roads, tunnels, and even improving mobile coverage in these states. As part of Project Vartak, the infrastructure is being created.

Every road network in the border regions of western Assam and western Arunachal Pradesh is being developed by the Border Roads Organization. Due to the difficulty of moving vehicles in the wintertime due to the high snowfall, two tunnels, Sela and Nechipur, are now being built.

Additionally, the Border roads organisation is working to connect remote parts of Tawang district and support the socio-economic growth of this region.

The Center is striving to improve mobile coverage in Tawang and other bordering regions of Arunachal Pradesh in addition to improving road connectivity.

The Sela Pass tunnel will be done in 5 to 6 months, although the Nechiphu tunnel is almost finished.

The Balipara-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) road's 500-meter-long "D-shaped, Single Tube Double Lane" Nechiphu tunnel, which is in the West Kameng neighbourhood and is situated at a height of 5700 feet, is almost finished.

A key benefit of the tunnel will be that it would make it easier to travel in dense fog, which has long been a problem for both civilian traffic and military convoys. Additionally, it will have up-to-date lighting and security features that permit two-way traffic.

Notably, the Tawang area, one of the regions where the enormous infrastructure ramp-up is occurring, saw hand-to-hand action between the Indian and Chinese soldiers. According to an undated video, Chinese PLA soldiers broke in to try to take a 17,000-foot peak on the Indian side, but Indian Army personnel forced them away.

By integrating different federal and state government programmes, the Arunachal Pradesh government recently developed a model village programme with the goal of providing all utilities in a few selected border villages.

The state's model village will be one of three communities in the Anjaw district, Kaho, Musai, and Kibithoo.
