ITANAGAR: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein inaugurated the 4th edition of the Arunachal Yuva Samanvay on Tuesday in Kombo Jirdin village, West Siang district, underlining the rich cultural heritage of the state and the potential of its youth.

The event, 'Youth for Satat Vikas,' is the attempt to gather the youth of 26 major tribes of Arunachal Pradesh to get engaged with them, to learn from them, and to empower them. Mein emphasized the importance of youths in building the future when he said, "Our youths are tomorrow's leaders, innovators, artists, and entrepreneurs." He asserts that collective efforts are required to develop their talents for the betterment of the state.

The current function this year has 750 participants performing cultural performances, exhibitions, and discussions that would depict the vibrant culture of Arunachal. Mein also enumerated a host of government initiatives to develop the youth, such as Arunachal Pradesh Scholarship for Academic Excellence and the setting up of youth desks at major cities.

He also announced the establishment of a FIFA-standard football stadium in Itanagar and the Arunachal Olympic Mission to popularize sports among the youth. Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Kento Jini emphasized that the event would be conducted in a village, which would enable the participants to get deeply entrenched in the local Galo tribe's culture. He also asked the visitors to abstain from the consumption of liquor and tobacco, and thus declared prohibition for the four-day-long event.

Earlier, Mein inaugurated a double-court badminton hall at Aalo and vowed to spend Rs 2 crores for developing further sports facilities in the district.
