ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed concern Monday over the dismal performance of students of government schools in the board exam this year. Responding to media questions during an interaction programme here on the nine years of completion of the Modi government at the Centre, Khandu admitted that the performance of students of government schools in the class X and XII board exams was below the desired level in comparison to previous results. The government-run schools in the state have once again registered a dismal performance in the All India Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (AISSCE), with a poor pass percentage of 41.79 this year. The state has slipped three points below last year’s record of 44.33 percent and two points below the 2017 record of 43.44 percent. "I have asked the concerned minister to prepare a report on the factors contributing to such a poor performance and submit it to me. The minister has already taken up a meeting with the departmental officers and will submit the report by tomorrow. We will discuss thoroughly so that corrective measures can be taken immediately," Khandu said.

The chief minister added that a robust plan would be in place to overhaul the education department, which is on the priority agenda of the state government. "We have undertaken various measures to improve educational infrastructure in the state. The state government also declared 2021 the "Year of Education’. We have invested a lot in the sector," he said, and he advocated for community efforts to bring about change in the sector. Speaking on the nine-year completion of the NDA government at the Centre, the chief minister informed that the northeastern states, especially Arunachal Pradesh, witnessed a major development push since Narendra Modi came to power at the Centre. "Arunachal Pradesh is the biggest state in the northeast with various challenges and has been neglected for decades. After the NDA came to power in 2014, the land-locked state witnessed massive development in terms of infrastructure and connectivity, besides health and other sectors," Khandu claimed.
