ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has announced a chain of activities against the new farm Bills. Informing this, APCC president Nabam Tuki said that the programmes will include the online nationwide campaign named 'Speak Up for Farmers' from September 26, a mass-signature campaign from October 2 to 31, and observing October 2 as the 'Kisan Majdoor Bachao Diwas'.said that the party will stand by the farmers until the Central government incorporates the clauses or sections that protect the interests of the famers in the recently passed "contentious Farm sector Bills".

Extending support to the farmers who are protesting the three farm Bills, Nabam Tuki said, "The APCC will soon submit a memorandum to the Governor in support of incorporating the sections and clauses protecting our farmers' interest," Tuki said.

The three new Farm sector Bills that were passed recently in both the house of the Parliament are the 'Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill-2020', the 'Farming Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill-2020', and the 'Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill-2020'.

Terming the Bills as "anti-farmer" and "unjust" – a day after the State BJP unit termed the same bills as "revolutionary".

"The Congress does not oppose the Central government in enacting new laws; but it should be brought through by following the proper procedures and after taking the stakeholders into confidence," Tuki said while addressing a press conference at the APCC headquarters here on Wednesday.

Tuki further said that the Bills were introduced and passed in an "undemocratic, unconstitutional, unplanned and in a hurried manner". He added that "the rights of the farmers in terms of 'Minimum Support Price' (MSP) and "mandis" should be incorporated into the Bills. Mere verbal assurances won't ensure protection of the farmers' interest."
