Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Tuesday criticized Chief Minister Pema Khandu for making a statement against the party in a public function at Mebo in East Siang district on Sunday.

Khandu during the public function had stated that the Congress government at the Centre had always used NE states, Arunachal Pradesh in particular, as money minting machines while the BJP has been giving priority on development.

Terming such statement as one of the best jokes of the decades, the APCC reminded the chief minister that he is the brainchild of the Congress and his father Dorjee Khandu became a panchayat leader, MLA, minister and Chief Minister of the state by contesting elections on Congress ticket.

“It cannot be ruled out that Khandu has not inherited the same legacy as was brought to limelight during last Assembly election when Rs 1.80 crore belonging to the BJP leaders were seized from two vehicles of his convoy at Pasighat in East Siang district, reflecting true color of the saffron brigade,” APCC spokesman Chera Taya said in a statement here.

“The statement of Khandu questions his insensitivity towards the Congress which groomed him what he is today from a simple businessman. Moreover, it is regrettable that he has been parroting the tone of the RSS, which has been remotely controlling the BJP-led government at the center,” Taya said.

“If the Centre is really concerned about the state’s physical development, has any new scheme been sanctioned? It is needless to mention that Holongi Greenfield Airport, Trans-Arunachal Highway, railways link to Naharlagun, Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Science (TRIHMS) were sanctioned during UPA-II government led by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh,” the statement added.

The APCC advised Khandu to introspect instead of washing dirty linens in public.
