ITANAGAR: With 201 more persons — including 33 security personnel — testing positive for the virus during the last 24 hours, the State's COVID-19 tally rose to 4,775, on Saturday. Meanwhile, after testing COVID-19 positive, State Education Minister Taba Tedir is in home quarantine, said said State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa.

As on date, while the State has 1,487 active cases, altogether 3,280 people have recovered from the disease; and eight have succumbed to the infection. The recovery rate in the State now stands at 69.60 per cent. The State has tested 1,80,372 samples for the infection including, 3,113 on Friday.

In a Facebook post, the Minister said, "I have been tested positive. All those who had come in contact with me are requested to isolate and quarantine themselves and also contact their nearest COVID Centre for tests."

So far, three lawmakers of the State have tested COVID-19 positive. Besides Minister Tedir, the other two are Jummum Ete Deori representing the Lekang constituency in Namsai district and Dorjee Wangdi Kharma from the Kalaktang constituency in West Siang.

Of the 201 fresh cases detected on Saturday, 56 were reported from the Capital Complex region; 42 from West Siang; 17 from Papumpare; 16 from West Kameng; 13 from Tawang; 10 from Upper Subansiri; nine cases each from Changlang and Lower Dibang Valley districts; six from Lohit; five each from Longding and East Siang; four from Lower Subansiri; two each from Tirap and Leparada; and one each from Namsai, Shi-Yomi, Kra Daadi, Lower Siang and Upper Siang. Barring 15, all the new COVID-19 patients are asymptomatic and shifted to Covid care centres.

"Among the fresh patients are 33 security personnel including 18 Army men, seven from the BRO (Border Roads Organisation), six from the ITBP, three from the Assam Rifles, five from the State Police constables, one IRBn personnel besides a Healthcare worker," informed Dr Jampa. Meanwhile among the 113 persons cured and discharged on Friday are 29 from the Capital Complex region. The Capital Complex region — comprising the areas of Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa — has reported the highest number of active cases at 256, followed by West Siang at 176, added Dr Jampa.
