Arunachal Pradesh: Former Minister's Demise Mourned

ITANAGAR: On Monday, after a prolonged illness, the former minister Kardu Taipodia passed away.

President of the APYC Tarh Johny paid tribute to the late Taipodia in a statement of sorrow, describing him as "one of the most devoted party workers" and "the first and longest-serving president of the APYC from 1975 to 1987."

“The memories and examples he has set for the APYC in the state will always be cherished and regarded as a path-showing lamp,” the APYC said and sent the grieving family a kind condolence message.

The Galo People's Federation (GPF) expressed deep sorrow over Taipodia's passing and sent its sincere condolences to the family who had lost their loved one.

There are four kids, two daughters, and two wives left behind by him. In 1942 in Ripo village, he was conceived by the late Lenkar Taipodia and Yajum Dini Taipodia. In Assam's Sissiborgaon, he completed his primary education, and in 1963 he graduated from the public secondary school in Aalo. From JN College in Pasighat, he received his diploma in 1968.

“He was an avid social activist from his schooling days,” the GPF said, adding that “he was a member of the Akhil Bharat Vidhyalay Parishad from 1964 to 1969, president of the Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress Committee from 1976 to 1985, chairman of the North East Youth Coordination Committee from 1976 to 1985, and general secretary-cum-AICC member from 1989-94.”

In the 1984 and 1989 assembly elections, he ran as the Congress party's nominee in the undivided Aalo assembly constituency. He was sworn in as a cabinet minister for transport, rural development, and tax and excise in 1994 after winning the Likabali Assembly seat. He later ran for MLA in 1999 with the NCP's ticket. On behalf of the Samajwadi Party, he contested for the western Arunachal Pradesh parliamentary constituency in 2004.

“His demise is not only a great and irreplaceable loss for his family members and dear ones, but also a colossal loss for the entire state, and the Galo community in particular,” the GPF said in a condolence message.

Expressing his sorrow on Taipodia's passing, Governor KT Parnaik also prayed for the deceased's soul to experience eternal peace. “Taipodia’s death is a loss for the people of the state, especially the Galo community,” the governor said in a condolence message.
