ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu Thursday extended their best wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of the Si-Donyi festival.

The Governor expressed his hope that the celebration would strengthen the splendid cultural heritage and traditions of the state.

In his message, the Governor said that nature worship and invoking the grace of various forms of deities and spirits are the foundation of the religious belief of the indigenous communities and the Si Donyi festival is a manifestation of this belief.

"With its religious, cultural and emotional background, Si Donyi is the most important festival of the Tagin tribe. Blended with unique customs and rituals of the community, this festival is cherished by one and all. It signifies the belief of the Tagins that the omnipotent Si-Donyi is the supreme guardian of all the living beings on earth," he said.

"I am sanguine that our Tagin brethren will continue to celebrate Si Donyi every time with enhanced zeal and shall preserve and promote the sublime thoughts, values and their age-old good practices," the Governor said.

Khandu in his message said, the Tagins are one of the most exuberant tribes of the state, who have been preserving their traditional heritage with pride for ages while passing it on successfully to the next generation.

"Being one of the largest tribes of the state, our Tagin brothers and sisters have contributed immensely to the development of our state besides maintaining peace and harmony. May this joyous celebration of Si-Donyi strengthen the bond amongst all communities," the chief minister said.

Khandu expressed optimism that the festival will successfully invoke the Almighty to usher in a new era of peace and progress in the state.

While lauding the indigenous communities of the state for taking pride in their respective culture, he said the celebration of festivals such as Si-Donyi is one proven way of preserving indigenous culture for posterity.

"Si Donyi is our supreme guardian who protects and takes our good care. Come let us together celebrate our splendid culture and tradition with joy and gaiety," he added.
