ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra on Sunday extended his greetings to the people of the State on the festive occasion of Podi Barbi, one of the main festivals of the Adi community which showcases the magnificent history of the tribe and presents a mosaic of the composite culture of the State.

He expressed the hope that the festival, which heralds the onset of the new agricultural season, will bring a bumper harvest, and usher in contentment and prosperity.

In his message to the people, Mishra said that festival celebrations relate to cultural and ethnic services of the people and motivate them to remain connected to their roots.

"Festivals cement the social cohesion. It gives an occasion to community elders to share their knowledge and experiences, which set the templates for maintaining unity in the fold. The ethnic rites, rituals, beliefs and practices get reinforced in the tribal festivals. Festivals constitute the vibrant traditional legacy, which has survived as an integral part of the cultural metrics of the State," he said.

"I am confident that the grand celebrations of Podi Barbi festival will continue with fervour under the guidance of the community elders, in years to come as well. On this occasion, I join my Adi brethren in offering prayers to Almighty Donyi Polo for their choicest blessings on each one of us," the Governor added in his message.

State Assembly Speaker PD Sona also extended his greetings and good wishes to the people. Sona hoped that the festival would usher in a bumper harvest, good health and harmony for all.
