ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (APIC) has invoked Section 20(l) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, and imposed a penalty to the tune of Rs 25,000 on a deputy director of schools education (DDSE) for refusing to furnish information to an appellant, thereby defying the order of the Commission. In its judgement of Wednesday, the commission directed Yade Nasi, the DDSE of Upper Subansiri district, to further compensate the appellant, Nabam Tapak, with another Rs 20,000 for the monetary losses incurred on to and fro journey expenses due to the delay in furnishing him information.
Nasi has been directed to deposit the penalty amount in favour of the Registrar, APIC, through a treasury challan in the head of account No. 0070—other administrative charge—before July 26 next. She has also been directed to appear before the court of Gumjum Haider, state information commissioner, on July 26 along with the deposited copy of the treasury challan, including the information sought by the appellant. The Commission added that in the event of her failure to comply with the order, it would invoke Section 20(2) of the Right to Information Act, 2005.
