Arunachal Pradesh launches Swachh Surevkshan Grameen 2018

Itanagar, July 25: Arunachal Pradesh today formally launched the Swachh Surevkshan Grameen (2018), a national survey launched by the union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation on July 13 this year.

The objective of the rural survey is to undertake ranking of states and districts on basis of their performance attained on key quantitative and qualitative Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen (SBM-G) parameters. The criteria of SSG-2018 include survey of public places, citizens’ perspective of cleanliness, their recommendations and data from SBM-G.

As part of it, 6,980 villages in 698 districts across India will be covered. It will cover total 34,000 public places namely schools, anganwadis, public health centres, haat/bazaars/religious places in these villages. The process of the survey would begin on August 1 next and would culminate on August 31, state PHE & WS Commissioner Marnya Ete informed.

Launching the survey, Khandu appreciate the department for achieving the Open Defecation Free (ODF) target 16 months before the deadline and claimed that the state has been ranked 4th in cleanliness ranking throughout the country. “Our government had allocated an amount of Rs 30 crore for carrying forward the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) in the state,” Khandu said and exuded confidence that the state’s ranking would improve more in the days to come.

He said, due to coordinated efforts among all the stakeholders, the ODF status of the state could be achieved well in advance of the deadline of December 31, 2018. “We have already started instituting award for best village in the state in terms of cleanliness,” he added.

PHE & WS Minister Wangki Lowang in his deliberation sought the cooperation of all the stakeholders to create cleanliness awareness among the masses.

“This year there were no reports of any major epidemics in the state which has amply proved that SBA has been implemented successfully in the state,” the minister said adding, the government is on its job for proper solid waste management, which is another component of SBA.
