ITANAGAR: The Covid-19 tally in Arunachal Pradesh rose to 56,633 on Monday after 140 more people tested positive for the infection, 126 less than the previous day, a senior Health Department official said here.

Arunachal Pradesh reported 266 Covid cases on Sunday, the highest ever reported in the State this month.

Of the fresh cases, 77 were registered in the Capital Complex Region, 15 in Changlang, 13 in West Kameng and six each in Lower Subansiri and Papumpare district respectively, the official said.

Tirap district also reported five fresh cases, followed by Tawang and Kamle with four each, three each from Dibang Valley, Namsai and Lower Dibang Valley and one from Lohit.

Two Army personnel and a health care worker are also among the fresh cases, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

The death toll in the State remained at 282 as no fresh fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours, he said.

Among the new cases, 122 were detected through the Rapid Antigen Test, 14 through RT-PCR process and four through TrueNAT method, Jampa said, adding that 72 of them have developed COVID-19 symptoms.

The State has been witnessing a spurt in COVID-19 infections since January 4, with 1,281 new cases reported so far.

Arunachal Pradesh now has 1,156 active cases, while 54 patients recuperated from the disease on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 55,195, the SSO said.

The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state stood at 97.46%.

The Capital Complex Region, comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has the highest number of active cases at 463, followed by West Kameng at 154, Changlang (97), Lower Dibang Valley (72), Lohit (62) and Namsai at 57 cases.

State Immunisation Officer Dr Dimong Padung said that a total of 15,31,453 people have been inoculated so far in the state.

At least 38,934 beneficiaries in the age group of 15-18 years have been vaccinated with the first dose and 6,367 senior citizens received the booster jab.
