ITANAGAR: Single-day recoveries continued to surpass fresh Covid-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh, as 50 more people recuperated from the disease on Friday, while 21 new infections were registered in the northeastern state, a senior health official said here on Saturday. The new cases pushed the virus tally to 54,865, the official said.

As many as 54,196 people have been recovered from the disease thus far in the State, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said. The recovery rate among Covid-19 patients marginally increased to 98.78 per cent from 98.73 per cent the previous day, while the active percentage stood at 0.71, he said.

The death toll in the frontier state increased to 280 after a man succumbed to the infection on Friday, the SSO said. The 75-year-old man from Tawang district died at Dahung military hospital in West Kameng district due to cardiac arrest and Covid Pneumonia, Jampa said.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has 389 active cases. Lower Dibang Valley district has the highest number of active cases at 65, followed by Lohit (56), West Kameng (53), Tawang (47) and East Siang at 36 cases.
