ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh reported 24 fresh Covid-19 cases, pushing the virus caseload in the northeastern state to 64,672, a senior health official said here on Sunday.

The active cases in the state increased to 149, he said.

The northeastern state which remained virus-free for the last couple of months witnessed a sudden surge in Covid-19 cases since July 1, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said. Among the fresh cases, 11 were reported from the Lohit district, followed by the Capital Complex region (8), Namsai (3) and West Kameng with two cases, the official said.

As many as 64,227 people have recuperated from the disease thus far in the state.

The Covid death toll in the state remained unchanged at 296 as no fresh fatality was registered in the past 24 hours, the SSO said.

The recovery rate among the Covid-19 patients stands at 99.31 per cent, while the active ratio stood at 0.23 per cent, Dr Jampa said. Lohit district has the highest number of active cases at 67, followed by West Kameng at 21, Namsai (19) and Papumpare (15).

The Capital Complex Region comprising - Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has also 14 active coronavirus cases. Over 12.76 lakh samples have been tested for coronavirus in the state so far including, 101 on Saturday, Jampa added.
