Arunachal Pradesh logs 80 new Covid cases, highest single-day spike in July

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday reported 80 fresh cases, the highest single-day spike this month, pushing the total caseload to 65,231, a senior health official informed here. The northeastern state recorded the highest spike of 63 Covid-19 cases on Friday.

The toll remained unchanged at 296, with no new fatality recorded in the past 24 hours, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Arunachal Pradesh, which remained virus-free for the last couple of months, had been witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases since July 1, much like some other parts of the country, the SSO said.

Among the new cases, 29 were reported from the Capital Complex Region, followed by 8 each in Lower Subansiri and Namsai, Upper Siang (7), Lohit (5), and Leparada (4) and three each in Anjaw, Changlang and East Siang respectively, the official said.

Two fresh cases each were also reported from West Siang, Siang and Lower Dibang Valley while each new case was also recorded at Papum Pare, Lower Siang, Pakke Kessang and West Kameng districts.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has 318 active cases, while 64,617 people recuperated thus far including, 48 on Friday, he said.

The recovery rate stands at 99.06 per cent, while the active ratio stood at 0.49 per cent, Dr Jampa said.

The Capital Complex Region comprising, Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has the highest number of active cases at 84, followed by Lohit at 42, Namsai (39), 23 cases each in Upper Siang and Lower Subansiri and 21 cases in East Siang district.

A total of 12,80,175 samples have been tested for Coronavirus in the state thus far, including 437 on Friday, Jampa added.

So far over 17.76 lakh, people have been inoculated with Coronavirus vaccines in the state, State Immunization Officer (SIO) Dr Dimong Padung informed.
