ITANAGAR: A 28-year-old man from Paya village in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh drowned in the Yomgo river while fishing on Friday afternoon, police said. The victim, identified as Limin Ingo, was on a fishing trip with his friends when the incident occurred around 2 pm. According to Inspector Yomken Riram, officer-in-charge of Aalo police station, Ingo is believed to have accidentally slipped into the river. Two friends who were fishing nearby tried to save him, but the strong river currents forced them to abandon the rescue attempt. The body is yet to be recovered. Police said teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been requested to join the search. Hundreds of residents from Paya village joined the police in the search effort late into Friday night, and all downstream villages have been alerted to assist in locating the body.
