ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh mourned the death of former minister and a founder member of the Pradesh Council Chow Tewa Mein, who breathed his last on Monday after a prolonged illness. He was 80 years old and the elder brother of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.

State Governor Lt Gen K T Parnaik on Tuesday condoled the sudden demise of Mein and said that in his passing away, the state has lost an iconic leader and first generation political steward. The Governor said that Mein was a prominent statesman, who served the people in various capacities and immensely contributed in the development of the state in his long political career of 47 years.

Joining the people of the state, the Governor prayed to the Almighty to give the members of the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and eternal peace for the departed soul. Meanwhile, the state unit of BJP on Tuesday convened a condolence meeting at the party’s office here, to pay respect to the departed leader. The meeting was attended by the party’s vice presidents Tarh Tarak and Tagin Siga, chairman of Arunachal Pradesh Khadi and Village Industries Board, Dominic Tadar, state secretaries Joram Tat and Tadar Niglar, among others.

The party paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mein and prayed to the almighty for his eternal peace. A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
