ITANAGAR: The State National People’s Party (NPP), Arunachal Pradesh has strongly condemned the atrocity of Army towards the villagers of Longkhjon village under Longding District of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.

“The army misusing the Armed Force Special Power Act to harass the innocent public of the region time and again which is total violation of human rights,” the party said.

It further said that it was understood that the 23 people, including a priest of Longkhjon village of Longding district, were beaten up by the army personnel on November 18 for the reason, which they were completely ignorant of.

The party added, “The army personnel raided the village and tortured the innocent villagers without prior permission from the district administration. Anything done by the villagers at gun point to save their lives cannot be treated as underground or underground sympathizer and therefore army personnel beating up the innocent villagers for carrying the dead body of the militant is totally inhuman act.

“The state NPP Arunachal Pradesh urged the state government to initiate the necessary action against the army personnel involved in the Longkhjon incident,” it said.

The party demanded the Government of India for revocation of Armed Force Special Power Act (AFSPA) from the entire state of Arunachal Pradesh and ensures the safety of the people from the unnecessary harassment by the Army misusing the AFSPA.
