CHANGLANG: In a breakthrough, security forces have arrested an NSCN (IM) cadre in a joint operation at Kharsang Charali in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district.

The cadres, whose name was given as Kitsam Kitnya, Rajapiyo, were apprehended in a joint operation launched by the 11 Assam Rifles and the Changlang district police.

Officials confirmed that the arrested cadre was also involved in circulating extortion notes to villages and business houses in the area.

"The person confessed to working under Mr. Tosham Mossang, SEM and Revenue In-charge of NSCN (IM) in Changlang district," a police officer said. A pistol, ammunition, mobile phone, extortion diary, and other incriminating materials were seized during a follow-up search by security personnel. An FIR has been registered, and further investigations are being conducted.

Sources confirmed that extortion has turned into a main source of funds for insurgents who are active in eastern Arunachal Pradesh. "This area has been a hub of insurgents extorting businessmen," a source added.

The authorities remain focused on tightening efforts to end insurgency-related operations and provide security within the area.
