Arunachal Pradesh observes 'World Drug Day' with awareness rallies

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday joined in celebrating the World Drug Day by organizing anti-drug rallies in various parts of the State.

The 138 CRPF Battalion, which is located at Seinki View here, organized an awareness rally in the streets of the State capital on the serious impact of drugs among the people.

The theme of this year celebration was 'Addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crises and share drug facts, save lives'. The Commandant of the battalion, Harvinder Singh Kales spoke on the ill-effects and serious consequences of drugs on human life especially, among the youths.

He said that the day is being celebrated every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free from drug abuses.

"Together we can tackle the menace," he said and appealed all to join hands in the fight against drugs.

The Capital Police on the occasion, conducted route marches in all the police stations of the Capital Complex Region including, Itanagar, Chimpu, Niti Vihar, Papu Hills, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa.

The route marches were taken out with banner and slogans saying 'No to Drugs'. Pamphlets with drug awareness messages were also distributed among the public. The Arunachalee Alumni of Delhi-NCR in collaboration with Arunachal Student Union, Delhi and NSS unit of Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) here, organized an awareness programme here on the occasion.

The DNGC NSS unit presented a very meaningful street-play with effective message against drug abuses and illicit trafficking.

The entire Ziro valley in the Lower Subansiri district reverberated with anti-drugs slogans as hundreds joined the 'Nasha Se Azadi' rally organised by the district administration in collaboration with Tax and Excise department, Tanw Supuñ Dukuñ and Apatani Women's Association to mark the conclusion of the Nasha se Mukt Pakhwada fortnight, which began on June 12 last.

The rally culminated at Padi Yubbe Outdoor Stadium, Hapoli, where all the participants were administered the anti-drug pledge.

DC Bamin Nime gave a clarion call to all the participants to keep up the momentum in the fight against drugs. He appealed to the public to be proactive in reporting drug peddling cases to the district police and the administration while, assuring complete anonymity of the informers.

Tanw Supuñ Dukuñ president HK Shalla, while speaking on the occasion, advised all the students participating from various government and private schools of Ziro to disseminate information about the ill-effects of drugs to their family and friends.

The Rapper group G Jackal later performed a few songs with the message 'Stand up against Drugs'.

Students from various government and private schools, Gaon Burahs and Gaon Burhis, members of Apatani Youth Association, police department, officers and officials and public joined the mega rally.

The day was observed at the Government Higher Secondary School at Raga in the Kamle district, in collaboration with the district administration and Tax & Excise department. Kamle DC Adong Pertin appealed to all the participants to disseminate the ill-effects of drugs and psychotropic substance abuse, to all the people, schools and villages of the district. He asked them to spread the message to their friends who are studying in interior schools of the district.

'Nasha se Azadi Pakhwada' under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan culminated on Sunday at Bomdila in the West Kameng district with observance of the day in Higher Secondary School and various administrative circles of the district.

The district administration and the police, during the fortnightly observance of the programme, carried out various awareness campaigns including destruction of wild cannabis in various parts of the district.

The campaign culminated with a pledge to fight against drug abuse and tobacco consumption.

The day was also observed in the West Siang district wherein ADC Henkir Lollen appealed to the students to focus on studies and other co-curriculum activities for healthy life.

To mark the occasion, a mini marathon with the theme 'No to drugs, Yes to life' was organized by the Upper Siang district police, which witnessed participation of police personnel and public, especially youth.
