Arunachal Pradesh Police Debunk "Meth Candy" Rumours Targeting Schoolchildren

ITANAGAR: In a bid to quell unfounded fears, the Arunachal Pradesh Police have put out a statement dismissing reports that strawberry-flavoured "meth candy" was being distributed among schoolchildren. Capital Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh confirmed that such claims are baseless and a part of an old internet hoax that originated in the United States in 2007.

Singh noted that the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has repeatedly claimed that there is no credible evidence that supports the existence or distribution of methamphetamine in flavored forms targeted at children. However, this rumor was being spread all over social media, causing unwarranted alarm among parents and the community.

The Superintendent of Police appealed to the parents and the public at large to be vigilant but implored them not to spread information, which brings unfounded fear and unnecessary anxiety. He recommended that such activities be reported to the school authorities or law enforcing agencies to have such concerns properly addressed in a responsible and informed manner.

The Arunachal Pradesh Police is trying to dispel these rumors to assure the public and prevent the spread of misinformation, which can be very dangerous for individuals and communities. 

Methamphetamine, also known as meth, is one of the most potent and highly addictive central nervous system stimulants. It can cause extreme physical and psychological disorders in the affected individuals resulting in severe addiction, paranoia, and even violent behavior.
