Arunachal Pradesh Power Minister Tamiyo Taga seeks Centre’s intervention on Saubhagya scheme

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Power Minister Tamiyo Taga has requested Union Power Minister R K Singh to issue directive to the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) to start electrification of all un-electrified houses in the state under Saubhagya Scheme, launched last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Taga, who called on Singh in New Delhi yesterday, drew his attention on implementation of the time-bound Saubhagya scheme (Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana) for providing free electricity to all households with REC as the nodal agency.

The minister apprised Singh that the REC had not supplied all required materials as per the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed for which the state government was unable to start electrification of un-electrified houses though the target has been set for December 31 next.

“Snowfall will begin in upper reaches of the state like Tawang district by October to prohibit any works,” Taga pointed out and urged the union minister to pull up REC for its complacent attitude and direct to supply all materials immediately to begin works, official sources informed here on Tuesday. Taga informed that tender would be floated within a week time at division level to electrify all rural households by the state power department.

Singh appreciate the genuine problems of the hilly state and assured to issue directive to the REC accordingly besides assuring to provide extra financial support for the scheme if required by the state government.
