ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday celebrated the foundation day of Assam at Raj Bhawan with various cultural events. Governor Lt Gen K T Parnaik, along with his wife Anagha Parnaik, participated in the celebration with the people and children of Assam who are serving or staying in the state. The governor greeted the people of Assam on their foundation day and conveyed the good wishes of all Arunachalis to them. He expressed his hope that, with continued goodwill and cultural similarities amongst the people of both states, the minor discord-related boundary issues would be resolved soon.

Recalling the rich and vibrant cultural heritage of Assam, Parnaik remembered the great Assamese warrior Lachit Borphukan and cultural exponent Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion. He highlighted the achievements and accomplishments of Assam and said that they inspire other states in the Northeast. The governor also mentioned the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame for the 42.9 lakh handwritten notes on Lachit Borphukan and the participation of more than 11000 dancers and drummers performing 'Bihu' dance and playing 'dhol' in a single venue.

Parnaik also paid tribute to the founding father, Swargadeo Chaolung Su-Kha-Pha, and praised the present leadership, which is taking the state to new heights of development and creating avenues and opportunities for progress. A colourful cultural programme was presented on the occasion by artists from various communities of Assam, including Boro, Karbi, Mising, Sonowal Kachari, Lalung, Garo, Dimasa, and Assamese. Adding colour to the Axom Diwas, as a token of appreciation, the Assamese communities brought homemade traditional special dishes for the governor and other guests.
