Arunachal Pradesh: Ramchandra Chutia Bags Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) marked a significant milestone by celebrating the 85th birth anniversary of the literary legend Lummer Dai at Tezpur in Assam, for the first time.

The event, held at Lummer Dai Smriti Bhawan in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Pensioners’ Association Tezpur, brought together prominent figures from both Assam and Arunachal. The highlight of the celebration was the conferring of the Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award 2025 on renowned author Ramchandra Chutia, a distinguished writer and retired teacher who has penned 29 books in English and Assamese, focusing on tribal life in Arunachal Pradesh.

The award included a citation, a memento, a book packet, and a cash prize of ?50,000. Tezpur MLA Prithviraj Rava, announced that a documentary film based on Kanyar Mulya, one of Lummer Dai’s classic novels in which he played the lead role, would be handed over to APLS for screenings across Arunachal. He also encouraged APLS to translate a chapter titled Bane Kebang from Bishnu Rabha Rachanawali, which reflects on the various communities of Arunachal. He pledged his full support to APLS for future cultural and literary initiatives in Tezpur.
