ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh has shown a GST growth rate of about 38.37 percent during February this year in comparison to last year.

Informing this during the 39th Goods & Service Tax Council meeting at New Delhi on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said that the State also witnessed GST revenue growth of 12 percent during the month from domestic transactions.

The Goods & Service Tax collection in the month of February this year was at Rs 1,05,366 crore, he added.

State Tax & Excise Commissioner Kangki Darang, who accompanied the Deputy Chief Minister, informed that some of the important decisions taken by the GST Council include a hike in the rate on a mobile phone to 18 percent from 12 percent. It, however, deferred the perusal of hiking the rates on fertilizers and footwears due to the current economic slowdowns and the impact of COVID-19.

Moreover, filing will be mandatory for taxpayers over Rs 5 crore from Rs 2 crore of annual turnover, he said, adding that the GST Council also waived the late fee for delayed filing of annual returns for financial year 2018 and 2019 by entities with turnover of less than Rs 2 crore.

The meeting was chaired by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and co-chaired by Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Anurag Thakur, an official communiqué informed here on Sunday.
