
PASIGHAT: A joint team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and Mebo police successfully rescued six individuals stranded in the middle of the Siang River near Bodak village on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred after a sudden rise in water levels caused by heavy rainfall on Tuesday night, officials confirmed.
The stranded individuals, identified as Opang Tamuk, Sompa Marpache of Renging village, and Punching Rai, Rajen Narzari, Santosh Chettry, and Vijay Tamang of Raneghat, Pasighat, were collecting Tari around 8:25 pm when they became trapped, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ayup Boko.
Upon receiving information, a rescue team was formed under the supervision of DSP Boko, Mebo Police Station Officer-in-Charge Inspector Akai Chama, and SDRF In-Charge SI A. Barua. The team reached the site around 10:30 pm and began a search operation using searchlights. However, the operation was suspended for the night due to darkness and ongoing rainfall, though the team successfully pinpointed the individuals' location.
The rescue operation resumed early Wednesday morning, and the team used a boat to safely rescue all six individuals, DSP Boko stated.
East Siang Superintendent of Police (SP) Pankaj Lamba urged the public to refrain from venturing into hazardous areas, particularly during adverse weather conditions, without adequate safety precautions. He also praised the SDRF and Mebo Police for their prompt and effective rescue efforts.
