ITANAGAR: As part of the Mission Arun Himveer, a significant step was taken to boost market linkages for local agricultural and horticultural produce in Upper Siang district.

This initiative follows the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on November 29, last year, between the Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board (APAMB) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

The agreement seeks to facilitate the direct supply of fresh farm produce from local farmers to ITBP units stationed in remote border areas.

As part of the follow-up action, a significant consignment of fresh fruits and vegetables was successfully delivered to the 49th Battalion ITBP headquarters at Tuting, in Upper Siang district.

The supply was made possible through the efforts of the district agriculture department in collaboration with the Polo Yorbe self-help group and local farmers. These farmers have benefited from various government schemes, particularly the Oo-Bollu (Permanent Vegetable Garden) initiative under the Atma Nirbhar Krishi Yojana (ANKY).

The initiative is more than just a trade arrangement, it is a transformative step towards enhancing the rural economy by providing farmers with assured markets for their produce. By directly connecting local farmers with institutional buyers like the ITBP, the project ensures fair prices, reduces post-harvest losses, and eliminates the dependence on middlemen.
