ITANAGAR: In an unfortunate incident, two civilians sustained severe injuries during a counter-insurgency operation in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.s

The Deputy Commissioner of the Tirap district, Taro Mize has now confirmed that the case where two innocent villagers were shot at was indeed a case of mistaken identity.

It was a wrong encounter by the armed forces informing the Tirap DC clarifying the matter on Saturday 2nd April.

On Friday 1st April, the counter-insurgency operation was carried out by the 12 Para Special Forces at the Chasa village located in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Following the operation, two civilians were injured after the forces opened fire in the area suspecting militant activities.

The Special Forces went into the village late at night looking for militant activities after getting certain inputs but they mistakenly attacked the villagers.

The injured persons have been identified as Ramwang Wangsa and Nokphua Wangpan, both resident of Chasa village in Tirap.

The duo was later taken to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Assam's Dibrugarh for medical treatment after sustaining hand and leg injuries.

Meanwhile, doctors informed about their condition getting better and out are currently out of danger.

According to reports, at around 02:00 am on Friday night the forces came to know about insurgents' movements in Chasa village.

They fired at the two civilians after some suspicious movements and when the duo started running after forces approached them.

The locals of the area later surrounded the forces and demanded justice for the two innocent who became the victim of the incident for no reason.

Later, the Senior Army official getting informed about the incident rushed to the spot.

The deputy commission of Tirap on Friday informed that the security forces apologized to the locals and the two victims after they found that the injured duo are not militants. The forces have also promised compensation to the victims.
