ITANAGAR: Chief Minister Pema Khandu officially launched the ‘Arunachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Strategy and Action: A People’s Plan,’ designed to fulfill the Pakke Declaration and meet national biodiversity targets on Thursday.
The plan, available in both hard copy and digital formats, outlines specific action points to empower communities, districts, and indigenous groups in environmental stewardship, with government support.
Khandu recognized the role of the WWF, the State Biodiversity Board, and the Department of Environment and Forests & Climate Change in preparing the document. He pointed out that the strategy is in line with the philosophy of inclusive growth and joint action, embodied in the vision of 'sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas, and sabka prayas.'
The action plan supports the Pakke Declaration's five themes of environment, climate resilience, well-being, sustainable livelihoods, and collaborative action. Khandu pointed out that it would go a long way in implementing India's Sustainable Development Goals and make Arunachal Pradesh a front runner in conservation.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has achieved tremendous progress in protecting the environment with several initiatives such as National Mission for Green India and Jal Jeevan Mission. These initiatives, according to Khandu, are in accordance with the state's biodiversity plan with the aim of supporting sustainable economic development.
For effective implementation, there will be a special cell in the Chief Minister's Office for monitoring the action plan and the associated projects. Khandu appealed to all stakeholders, including students, to get on board with the plan and become environmental custodians at the community level.
