Arunachal registers 97 new corona cases raising the total tally to 3,223

ITANAGAR: Altogether 97 more persons including 35 security personnel tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, raising the State's total caseload to 3,223, informed State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa on Sunday.

Of the 97 fresh cases, 24 each were reported from Tawang and Upper Subansiri, 22 from the Capital Complex region, 16 from West Kameng, four from East Kameng, two from East Siang and one each from Lohit, Namsai, Kamle, West Siang and Lower Siang districts, the official said.

Barring seven, all of them are asymptomatic and have been shifted to COVID Care Centers.

Meanwhile, 103 cured persons who were discharged on Sunday, taking the number of recoveries to 2,228, the official said. Of them, 36 are from Lohit, 22 from the Capital Complex region, nine each from Lower Siang and East Kameng, eight from Tawang, seven from West Kameng, three each from Tirap, West Siang and East Siang, two from Longding and one from Lower Dibang Valley.

"Among the new patients are 35 paramilitary personnel. Of them, 22 are from Tawang, 11 from West Kameng and two are from East Siang," said Dr Jampa.

Arunachal Pradesh, which had reported its first COVID-19 case on April 2, has 990 active cases at present. Five patients have died so far, he said.

West Kameng district has the highest number of active cases at 174, followed by 128 in the Capital Complex region, comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, 114 in Upper Subansiri, 94 in Changlang, 93 in East Siang and 76 in Namsai, Jampa said.

A total of 1,752 people, including 682 security personnel, have tested positive for the infection in the State since August 1.

The recovery rate among the COVID-19 patients in the State has improved significantly to 69.12 per cent, as 1,446 people have been cured of the disease since the beginning of this month.

The State has so far tested 1,41,655 samples for COVID-19, including 2,474 on Saturday, he added.
