ITANAGAR: Security forces launched a patrol to dominate border areas in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district on Thursday, a defence official said.

The patrol was launched following specific information about the movement of cadres in the general area of Pongchau circle, in the district, along the Indo-Myanmar border, Kohima-based Defence spokesman Lt Col Amit Shukla said on Friday.

Moving through the thick forest, security forces observed the movement of unknown individuals and challenged them. In response, they were subjected to heavy and indiscriminate fire from heavy-calibre weapons, which were effectively retaliated against by the security forces. During the intense firefight, the unknown cadres withdrew across the international border toward Myanmar, the official said.

He said the area was thoroughly searched by the security forces; however, the cadres managed to cross the border, taking cover in the dense surrounding forest.
