ITANAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party is going to announce a new president on Saturday in Arunachal Pradesh following a critical meeting of its top officials that took place at the party office on Friday. Attending the conclave were top leaders Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, incumbent party president and Health Minister Biyuram Wahge, and returning officer Tagin Siga.
According to party insiders, former Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong has emerged as the front-runner to replace Wahge. Sources indicate that Moyong's candidate gained momentum following a spate of discussions among senior party leaders from both Itanagar and Delhi. His candidature is said to be supported by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The process of selecting a new party president is being guided by Union Minister and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, in consultation with BJP's Arunachal in-charge Ashok Singhal. Sonowal has been made the returning officer for the leadership election.
Other potential candidates present were former education minister Taba Tedir, former agriculture minister Tage Taki, Tezu MLA Dr. Mohesh Chai, and senior leader Tarh Tarak. The focus of the party as a whole is currently on this pronouncement, which is expected to determine the path for the party in the state.
