Itanagar: The Birds and Bees Talk (TBBT) programme at Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh, organized a parent kit orientation, to raise awareness among parents and students about the physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and sexual changes that adolescents experience while transitioning from childhood to adulthood. Inaugurating the event, Namsai Deputy Director of School Education, Pokdey Yomgam, urged parents to actively participate in such awareness sessions and become positive role models for their children.
He emphasized the importance of motivating students to excel academically and pursue their dreams with determination.
The orientation focused on the vital role parents play during adolescence, a stage marked by rapid development and significant challenges. As the first agents of socialization, families help shape a child’s behavior, attitude, and values.
Recognizing this, the session highlighted the importance of parents in offering emotional support, fostering self-esteem, promoting ethical values, ensuring well-being, and guiding children in making informed choices.
TBBT district lead, Senya Aboh, engaged with parents by introducing the concept of adolescence, discussing the changes and challenges that accompany it, and providing guidance on how parents can effectively support their children during this critical phase.
Through the awareness programme, TBBT aims to build stronger parent-child relationships, reduce stigma, and encourage open communication around adolescent issues.
