ITANAGAR: In a significant move to bolster public safety, the Arunachal Pradesh government has announced plans to install AI-enabled cameras across all towns and cities in a phased approach, as stated by Home Minister Mama Natung.
This initiative aims to improve law enforcement and security measures throughout the state.
The government has already initiated the use of AI-based CCTV cameras in 22 checkgates on the interstate borders of Assam and Nagaland to check and control the movement of unwanted people and prohibited items. Natung highlighted the resolve of the government to uphold law and order, quoting recent promotions of 3,558 policemen to boost morale in the police ranks.
Apart from upgrading surveillance, the state budget also has provisions for the upgradation of infrastructure at the second armed police battalion headquarters in Aalo and the development of a modern forensic center within the Police Training Centre in Banderdewa. Arrangements have also been made to establish new fire stations in every district by 2029, with some locations already earmarked for development.
Tackling the urgent problem of drug addiction, Natung spelt out the government's integrated approach under the Mukhya Mantri Nasha Mukti Yojana that comprises the opening of five de-addiction centers and a proposed rehabilitation center in the Itanagar Capital Region.
To address manpower shortages, particularly in the eastern districts, the state Cabinet has approved the creation of 3,000 new police posts. Furthermore, a proposal has been submitted to the Union Home Minister to enhance police capabilities in insurgency-affected areas. The government is also considering direct allowances for police uniforms to improve overall working conditions for officers.
