Arunachalee sculptor bags Pranab Barua Art Award

Itanagar: Arunachalee sculptor Takar Riba has bagged the Pranab Barua Art Award for the year 2018 for his contribution to the world of art. The award, instituted in memory of Pranab Barua, a noted artist of Assam, recognizes the life-time achievements of artists and sculptors from Northeast.

The award consists of a memento, citation and cash award of Rs 25,000. Riba, who hails from Lower Siang district of the state, studied at Viswa Bharati University in Shantineketan. He worked as an art expert in the state’s Information and Public Relation (IPR) department from where retired in 2007.

He is a member of the Lalit Kala Academy in New Delhi and the Arunachal Academy of Fine Arts. His sculptures are on display in many places in the state capital.

Besides Riba, eminent artists like Sobha Brahma, Menu Mishra, Neel Pawan Baruah, Adya Sarma, Biren Singha,Nani Borpujari, Pulok Gogoi, Jiten Hazarika among other received the award on earlier occasions.
