Itanagar: Biri Takar of Arunachal Pradesh, representing India, reached the quarterfinals of the men’s singles SL4 category at the 2025 Egypt Para Badminton International in Cairo. Takar defeated Turkey's S Tumkaya 21-12, 21-19 in the pre-quarterfinals.
He will face the World No. 12 in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Takar had a strong showing in the group stage, winning three matches and losing one. He was also set to compete in the doubles round of 16 at the BWF Para-Badminton International Level 2 event. Takar’s performance marks a significant achievement in the competition.
Meanwhile, Shuttler Laa Talar will captain the state badminton team at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand. The team includes six other players: Laa Tukum, Samuel Tamang, Laa Robin, Lobsang Choiden Sherdang, Lobsang Choidrup, and Rakju Rigia. The team is set to compete in the prestigious event, showcasing the state’s badminton talent at the national level.
Ealier in December 2024, Mom Niting of Longding achieved a remarkable hat-trick of titles at the 3rd Junior State Ranking Badminton Tournament-2024 in Keyi Panyor, Arunachal Pradesh, winning the U-17 and U-19 singles, and U-19 doubles events.
He defeated Pangdun Pansa in both singles finals and teamed up with Pansa to win the U-19 doubles, beating Chipe Riram and Marmin Uli. In the girls’ U-19 singles, Laa Anu of Kamle claimed the title. The boys' U-17 doubles was won by Riram and Uli. MLA Laisam Simai awarded the prizes at the closing ceremony, concluding the successful event.
